New TLD PDF Print E-mail

OpenNIC as of the 25/07/2008 has the ING TLD active in its root. This TLD will prove to be a success based on the broad range of use for it. A number of domains have been reserved to prevent potential abuse of such a gret TLD.

Tim is the hostmaster for the TLD, and is relatively new to OpenNIC. He has donated a T1 server for the TLD, and soon will have a T2 based in Newcastle, Asutralia to donate.

This is good news for OpenNIC as it brings our T1 server count to 7, which is a vast improvement from what we have had since the revival.

Good job guys!

Today the new .geek online registration form went live. This is an online form designed to take some of the pain out of registering a .geek domain name. This is a temp measure we have put in place until our DNS interface is ready for production A.K.A my.geek.

We are hoping this new form will encourage  more people to obtain a .geek domain name.

Teir 2 Registration Form PDF Print E-mail

Finally OpenNIC has a means for new members to register their Teir 2 server for public use. The form then sends an email to the OpenNIC email list which then gets approved or rejected by the members. The members will test the new Teir 2 server for functionality to ensure we only accept those DNS servers that actually work. :)

I am hoping that with this form in place, we can recognize more Teir 2 servers, as it is an easy means for members to inform the OpenNIC membership of a new Teir 2.
